Abstract

The Bukit Putus Padang bag factory is a unit at PT. Semen Padang whose main task is to produce cement bags that will support the production activities of PT. Semen Padang which implements the Make To Stock (MTS) production system. Inventory problems arise for glue-type bags (pasted bags) because this product has a retention period, namely a temporary storage period in the warehouse until the glue dries and can then be sent to the bagging unit after the order is received from the bagging unit. The Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) model has not yet accommodated the retention period. In fact, in practice, there are several products that must be stored first before being sent to consumers, which will affect the optimal order size value, as happened at the PT Semen Padang bag factory. Therefore, it is necessary to design and develop an EOQ (Economic Order Quantity) inventory model that takes into account the retention period in determining the optimal order size. In this study, the average inventory was calculated using the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) model, which takes the retention period into account. Then, the costs involved in inventory were calculated. To determine the optimum average inventory, the minimum total inventory cost was obtained from the equation used to determine the optimum Q. This research produces a model for solving inventory problems for products that have a retention period that has taken into account the retention period, the rate of constant and continuous use of goods. The optimum average inventory is not obtained from the intersection of ordering costs and holding costs as in the conventional EOQ model but lies at the intersection of ordering costs and holding costs after considering inventory for anticipated retention periods.
