Abstract

The extent of critical land in Indonesia continues to grow and has reached 30 million hectares. In West Sumatra alone, it has reached 1.275.190,90 hectares. Critical land has lost its fertility, so its productivity is very low. On critical land, rainfall can be wasted, floods occurring during the rainy season and droughts during the dry season. This harmful to both the environment and sustainable agricultural development To overcome this problem, one approach that is possible is to use indigenous arbuscula mycorrhizal fungi (AMP) along with application of local green manure to cultivate plants to economic value such as caster bean (Jatropha curcas L.) that can adap to such critical land. The objectives of these researches were: to the determine the numbers and types of indigenous arbucula mycorrhizal flmgi in the rhizosphere of caster bean plants in relations to select«3 chemical properties of soil; to determine the potential of various arbuscular mycorhizal fungi isolates to improve the growth of caster bean seedlings; to produce an Effective arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi inoculum specifically for the castor bean. Besides this,to the determine the optimum amount of arbucula mycorrhizal fungi and green manure for supporting the growth of caster bean on critical land.
