Abstract

The textile industry in Indonesia has experienced rapid development along with the increasing need for textile materials, which has led to an increase in the use of synthetic dyes, one of which is naphthol red. Because synthetic dye waste can be harmful to the environment and public health, research has been conducted to address this issue. One of the methods used is electrocoagulation with iron electrodes, which aims to remove naphthol red dye from water. The research was conducted to reduce the levels of dyes that are harmful to human health and the environment. Several parameters tested were dye concentration, electrocoagulation time, pH, electrical voltage, and distance between electrodes. Each of these parameters was carried out to determine the optimum conditions for removing naphthol red dye and was measured at a wavelength of 400,2 nm using an Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer. The optimum efficiency obtained in removing naphthol red dye in each parameter was in the range of 88% - 98% at a concentration of 150 mg/L, electrocoagulation time for 75 minutes, pH 7, voltage 10 V, and distance between electrodes 1 cm. Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) analysis was carried out on the coagulant resulting from electrocoagulation which showed a spectrum that had a spectrum similar to pure naphthol red.
