Abstract

Plastic waste management is one of the main challenges in maintaining environmental sustainability. One of the important steps in the plastic recycling process is drying the plastic shreds to reduce the water content that can affect the quality of recycled products. This study aims to test the performance of a plastic shred dryer machine by analyzing the effect of variations in speed, temperature, and time on the reduction of water content in plastic shreds. The speed variations used were 500 rpm, 750 rpm, and 1000 rpm, temperature variations at 40 °C, 50 °C, and 60 °C, drying time variations for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes. The experimental design method used the Taguchi method. The research data showed that these parameters had a significant effect on drying efficiency, with speed as the most influential test variable. The highest water content reduction was at a speed of 1000 rpm, a time of 5 minutes and a temperature of 60 ̊C. While the lowest water content reduction was at a speed of 500 rpm, a time of 5 minutes and a temperature of 40 ̊C. So it can be concluded that the greater the speed and temperature values used during the drying process, the greater the reduction in water content of the plastic shreds.
