Abstract
ABSTRAK Mutiara Andini. 2010822022. Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Political Scieces, Andalas University, Padang, 2025 Title: Culture Shock Among Indonesian Students in the ASEAN International Mobility for Students Program at Thai Nguyen University, Vietnam This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of culture shock experienced by Indonesian students participating in the ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS) program at Thai Nguyen University, Vietnam. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, this research identifies the factors causing culture shock, the main challenges faced by students, and the adaptation strategies they employ in dealing with cultural differences. The findings reveal that students struggle with communication due to language and accent differences, unfamiliar academic systems, and different social norms. Additionally, challenges related to dietary habits and the availability of halal food also play a significant role in the adaptation process. Students cope with culture shock through various strategies, such as learning basic Vietnamese, building social networks with local and international students, and seeking support from fellow Indonesian student communities. This study concludes that although culture shock poses a major challenge, students can adapt effectively through appropriate coping strategies. The AIMS program provides valuable experiences in enhancing cross-cultural understanding, mental resilience, and social skills in an international setting. The study recommends that students participating in similar programs in the future undergo cultural and language preparation before departure.
