Abstract

Laos is a country with the second highest level of human trafficking in Southeast Asia in 2011. This then prompted the entry of UNODC into Laos by running a program called LAOX26. UNODC claims that its efforts have succeeded and reached an effective stage. This study aims to describe the efforts made by UNODC in dealing with human trafficking in Laos from 2011 to 2016. The conceptual framework used is the Human Trafficking Protocol which has three components, namely Research and Awareness Raising, Promotion of Protocols and Capacity Building and Strengthening of Partnerships and Inter-agency Coordination. The method used is qualitative with an analytical descriptive approach that uses secondary data. The study found that UNODC had made efforts to tackle human trafficking in Laos through the three components of the Trafficking Protocol so that it reached the effective stage. The most visible success of UNODC is in the field of criminal justice which is indeed the focus of the task of UNODC. Keywords: Laos, UNODC, Human Trafficking, Human Trafficking Protocol.
