Abstract

Temporal change is a complex process that is influenced by ecosystem biota and agricultural activities. Aquatic macroinvertebrates play an important role in nutrient cycling and serve as food source for other organism in the rice field ecosystem. Temporal changes in macroinvertebrates in rice field ecosystems refer to fluctuations in the composition of classes and genera within a certain time period. This study was conducted from September 2023 to May 2024, aimed to know the temporal changes in aquatic macroinvertebrates and environmental conditions in rice fields with banda keong (snails borders) in Lubuk Alung. This study was conducted using purposive systematic sampling method, with samples collected once a week from 3 rice field plots at the center of each side of the plot. The results identified 4 classes, 13 orders, 18 families, 23 genera, and 7177 individuals. Gastropods had the highest number of individuals, while the Insecta class showed the highest diversity of genus composition. The most common genera were Pomacea, Melanoides, Somatogyrus, Physa, and Polypedilum, which were present in every sampling week. Temporal changes in aquatic macroinvertebrates were observed with the lowest number of individuals found in first week (W1) and the highest in second week (W2). Temporal changes by genus and the number of individuals varied every week. Temporal changes occur influenced by aquatic macroinvertebrates in rice fields and agricultural activities.
