Abstract

Psychological well-being is one of the most important things for families of lung cancer patients who are facing serious events. One of the things that can contribute to this psychological well-being, namely sense of coherence. This study aims to determine whether or not there is a relationship between sense of coherence and psychological well-being in families of lung cancer patients. The research method used in this study is quantitative method with Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis technique. Participants in this study consisted of 56 families of lung cancer patients selected using saturated sampling technique. Data collection used the Sense of Coherence Scale (SoC-13) from Antonovsky (1987) and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) which is a development of the theory of Ryff and Keyes (1995). The reliability result of the psychological well-being scale is .918 and on the sense of coherence scale, it is .829. The results showed that there is significant relationship between sense of coherence and psychological well-being in families of lung cancer patients. These results can be seen from the results of correlation analysis with a correlation coefficient (r) of .492 which is in the medium category and a significance value (p) of .000. This shows that the higher sense of coherence, the higher psychological well-being in the families of lung cancer patients and vice versa.
