Abstract

ABSTRACT “Widows in Women’s Land” ( Ethnography About The Stigmatization Of Widows InMatrilineal Community In Korong Gadang Village) Stigmatization of widows is a social reality. At least that is the result of research obtained by Hurlock when conducting research on stigmatization of widows in European society. Stigmatization of widows is also found in matrilineal society. This research wants to reveal the form of stigma that exists in Minangkabau. The assumption that was built from the beginning of this research is that in Minangkabau society there is also stigmatization of widows. The approach used in this research is qualitative research methods. The researcher used Hurlock's theory of stigma in analyzing data that had been obtained in the field. In addition to getting a comprehensive view, researchers use ethnographic methods as a paradigm in understanding widow's life. The aim is to be able to describe about stigmatization, this research is expected to produce ethnographic works regarding widow's life The results of this study indicate that in the Minangkabau community especially in Korong Gadang Village there is stigmatization of widows. The community builds stigmatization of widows in their daily lives. The community builds stigmatization of widows through habits, namely maota and mancikaraui. The stigma built by the Minangkabau community towards widows is an ambiguous stigma. The community not only builds a discrediting view but also forms a pride in widow's life. The community builds a negative stigma while building a positive stigma towards widows. Stigmatization in Minangkabau society is an ambiguous stigma. Duality stigma that is not found in patrilineal society. Key words: stigmatization, widows, matrilineal, Minangkabau, ambiguous
