Abstract

Covid-19 Pandemic has forced profound change on various sectors with significant impact on dental education which raises several challenges in the implementation of dental clinical education. Dental institutions have been closed to minimize the spread of coronavirus infection. Close contact between human being are required for all those learning process in traditional dental education. Learning methods must be innovated so that an effective learning process can continue in a safe and proper environment. The aim of this literature is to determine and give information of the potential use of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) in the learning of dental education students to prepare for the future demand for dental education during pandemic. The use of VR and AR technology as a dental training simulator is able to create an environment where users can practice clinical procedures, such as restorative dentistry, endodontics, periodontal assessment, implant placement, and tooth extraction. VR and AR technology can provide more efficient, effective learning, unlimited hours of training and students can practice when the lecturer as the teacher is in a different location from the student through objective real time feedback and high environmental realism. Based on literature the use of VR and AR technology has significant potential in improving the understanding of dental education student's learning during distance learning in the Covid-19 pandemic.
