Abstract

This study discusses the translation procedures and the functions of English correlative conjunctions translated into Indonesian as found in the English novel Animal Farm by Goerge Orwell. This research aims to analyze the translation procedures used by the translator in translating correlative conjunctions in the novel as well as functions of the correlative conjunctions. The method of this research is a qualitative method. The data were taken from English novel Animal Farm by George Orwell and its Indonesian translation Republik Hewan translated by Djokolelono. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses Newmark’s theory to analyze the translation procedures and Quirck & Greenbaum’s and Sneddon’s theory to analyze the functions of correlative conjunctions. The finding showed that the translation procedures used were: 37,5% literal translation, 37,5% reduction, 19% synonymy, and 6% modulation. For the functions of correlative conjunction, it was found that 19% data connect two options, 25% data connect two equal statements, 12% data connect two negative statements, 25% data connect two uncertain options and 19% data connect two related ideas.
