Abstract

Abstract Damage to high voltage electricity facilities has resulted in huge losses. To overcome this, routine checks are needed. One of the damage to electrical facilities that occurs is caused by a partial discharge event or a corona event. Inspection and analysis of corona release is very important to prevent electrical faults from external insulation in high voltage systems. This final project studies the measurement of ultraviolet light produced by corona events on polymer isolators using the UVTron type R9454 sensor. Measurement data is compared with current sensors type P6021 at the High Voltage Laboratory of the Electrical Engineering Department of Andalas University. The measurement results using the UVTron sensor are aligned with the measurement results of the current sensor. Therefore, it can be said that this UVTron sensor can be used to detect corona events that occur in electrical equipment. Some voltage variations are applied to the measurement object, namely: 9.72 kV; 11,965 kV; 14.96 kV; and 16.45 kV. The source voltage variation is concluded that the strength of the ultraviolet light emitted increases with increasing high voltage from the AC supply. But this final project still has some disadvantages, namely measurements carried out in a place that is not completely isolated from ultraviolet light that is present in the environment around the test. Keywords: UVTron sensor, ultraviolet light, corona, polymer insulator
