Abstract

This study is focused on exploring the verbal expression of bipolar disorder of depression episode. The subject of this research is RR, a patient in RSJ Prof. HB Saanin Padang. This research is an experimental case study encompassing several methods of analysis such as prosody and lexico-semantic and wave mapping of electrical brain (brain mapping) by using electroencephalograph (EEG). The instrument was used simultaneously to confirm specific location of brain mapping. The result of the study found: activation of gamma wave when the stimulus of prosody given to RR causing hiperprosody of BD depression episode. The finding of this study was proven by the activation of gamma wave F8 (frontal cortex) of right hemisphere. RR’s cognitive failure in prosodic aspects caused by the disability of subject in comprehending the differences of interrogative and declarative sentences. The evidence of this finding was comfirmed by gamma wave at F7 point (frontal cortex) of left hemisphere. Furthermore, the study found RR’s cognitive failure and verbal understanding disability in responding the lexico-semantic stimulus. This finding has been proved by gamma wave at T5 point (temporal lobe) of verbal understanding location of the brain. The cognitive failure is found at P3 point (Parietal) in left hemisphere. Keywords: Bipolar Disorder, Brain Mapping, Electroencephalograph, Prosody, Lexico-Semantic.
