Abstract
This tumor is the second most common tumor in the central nervous system. Meningioma is uniqe, because the clinical appearance was not seen in malignant degree of meningioma. Moreover, all degrees of meningioma have risk for recurrent. Therefore, many studies have shown that progesterone receptor influence the degree of meningioma and the examination was required to predict the biological charecter of meningioma tumor cells and hence to determine treatment and prognosis. Aim To study the association between progesterone receptor expression with the histopathologic degree of meningioma. Methods Conducted analytical research using cross sectional study design in patients with meningioma in 5 Laboratory of Pathology of West Sumatra. A total of 64 cases of meningioma were obtained during January 2012 to December 2015. Based on the formula of sample size and the inclusion criteria using 35 samples in this study. The samples of meningioma were classified into groups based on WHO grade criteria. An immunohistochemical examination was conducted to explore the expression of Progesterone receptor using specific antibodies to progesterone receptor. Data collected were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and p value ≤0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results From a total of 35 samples, 29 samples (82,9%) were classified of meningioma WHO grade I, 4 samples(11,4%) meningioma WHO stage II and 2 samples (5,7%) meningioma WHO Grade III. Meningioma was most prevalent in the age range 41-50 years, female gender and the degree of histopathological WHO degree I. Conclusion There was no significant correlation between the expression of progesterone receptors with degrees meningioma. Statistically no significant relationship with p>0,05. Keywords: Meningioma, Progesterone receptor
