Abstract
ABSTRACT Background Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a common skin malignancy in human. Various studies of risk factors associated to the behavior of BCC. These factors cause damage to the DNA level which cause in increasing of cell proliferation. Cell proliferation is a key tumor progression as assessed by Ki-67 expression. Previous studies have shown there is a relationship between the proliferation marker Ki-67 and histopathological variants BCC, but it is still controversial. Objectives Assessing the Ki67 proliferation index on histopathology variants BCC. Method The sample used 40 consisting of 20 samples of aggressive BCC and 20 samples of non aggressive BCC. Each sample was stained by immunohistochemical and assessed Ki-67 proliferation index. Result The expression of Ki-67 positive two most commonly found in aggressive BCC is 90% and the expression of Ki-67 positive one most commonly found in non-aggressive BCC is 75%. Conclusion There is a significant relationship between the expression of Ki-67 with histopathological variant of BCC, where aggressive BCC expression of Ki-67 has a higher than non-aggressive BCC. Statistically significant relationship with p<0,05. Key words Varian histopathology of BCC, aggressive BCC, non aggressive BCC, Ki-67, proliferation index
