Abstract
Introduction: Tramadol is a synthetic aminosyclohexanol that acts centrally with weak opioid agonist. Paracetamol is analgesia and anti-pyretic properties for both adults and children with very low incidence of side effects. Percutaneous nephrolilthotomy (PCNL) as first-line therapy in cases of kidney stones measuring more than 20 mm. Paracetamol analgesia is preferred over opiods because of the minimal side effects. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of acute pain reduction after PCNL procedure in patients treated with intravenous tramadol and intravenous paracetamol analgesics at Dr. M. Djamil Hospital Padang. Methods: This study used an analytic method with a single-blind randomized controlled trial design. The research was conducted at Dr. M. Djamil Hospital in November-December 2022. Sampling was done by modified slovin. Result: The effectiveness of paracetamol for postoperative pain assessed from the Visual Analog Scale showed that the group of patients given intravenous Paracetamol after PCNL surgery obtained a lower VAS value compared to the use of intravenous tramadol, but the difference did not show a significant number in statistical tests. Conclusion: There is no significant difference between the use of both paracetamol and tramadol analgesics in the management of acute pain after PNCL. Keywords: Tramadol, Paracetamol, PCNL, kidney stones
