Abstract

Bone fracture is a medical condition where there is discontinuity in the bone. Traffic accidents are the third most common cause of death in Indonesia, after coronary heart disease and tuberculosis. One incident that has a high prevalence of accidents is broken bones in the shin. Recommended therapy for fractures is conservative or operative methods. This study aims to determine the characteristics of tibial bone fractures treated at Dr. M. Djamil Padang in 2018-2019. This study was a retrospective descriptive study with cross sectional design using secondary data on 40 tibia fracture patients who met the inclusion criteria and underwent therapy at the Department of Orthopedics Dr. RSUP. M. Djamil Padang in 2018 - 2019. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of the fracture based on sex, age, location, type of fracture, cause and treatment of the fracture. The sampling method uses total sampling technique. The results showed 40 cases of tibia fracture that met the inclusion criteria. Most age groups are from 18 to 65 years (67.5%), occurring in men more than women (60%). The most frequent fracture site is 1/3 medial tibia (38%). The results obtained were closed fracture (37.5%) and open fracture (62.5%). Operative care (85%) is more done compared to conservative. The most common cause of tibia fracture is due to a traumatic injury (90%).
