Abstract

ADVERB KITTO, KANARAZU AND ZETTAI[NI] IN JAPANESE NOVEL AND SHORT STORY By: Mike Nurjana Key words: Adverb, kitto, kanarazu and zettai[ni], uses, similarity, difference Adverb in Japanese is called fukushi. Fukushi is a class of words that explain adjective, verb and another adverb. There are so many adverbs in Japanese language, but there are some adverbs that have same meaning and function such as fukushi kitto, kanarazu and zettai[ni] which mean ‘pasti, tentu and mutlak’. The usage, similarity and difference of fukushi kitto, kanarazu and zettai[ni] will be disscussed specifically based on the aspects of the contexts by Leech. This research is qualitative and descriptive. In the data collection, researcher uses the reading method or observation method by using taking notes. In the process of analyzing the data, the researcher uses pilah unsur penentu (PUP). To present the result, the researcher uses formal and informal method. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses a theory which is proposed by Leech, Carty, Satou and Hirose. Based on the analysis result, similarity and difference are found among fukushi kitto, kanarazu and zettai[ni]according to the aspects of context. The most important difference is the goal of an utterance and the utterance as a form of act or activity: a speech act. The goal of an utterance of adverb kitto is to tell the strong conviction subjectively by the speaker. The goal of an utterance of adverb kanarazu is to tell strong conviction objectively by speaker’s, hearer and another person around. Beside that, adverb kanarazu also has the goal to tell 100% conviction about something that sure will be happen and show activity as usual. Fukushi has the goal to tell strong conviction and the real thing happened without paying attention weather it is subjective or objective of the speakers, hearer or the people around the speech. vi
