Abstract
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the Multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO) which has been found quite much in many healthcare facilities, especially in the Intensive Care Unite (ICU) of hospitals. Working duration was considered to be one of risk factors for MRSA colonization in nurses. Problems arised after known that ICU nurses with MRSA colonization are at high risk of MRSA infection and have risk too to cause MRSA colonization and infection to patient. The objective of this research was to determine the amount of the carrier bacteria Group MRSA on the nurses based on working duration. This research is a cross-sectional descriptive study involving all nurses of ICU RS M.Djamil Padang. The results showed from 33 nurses who had been screened of MRSA based on working duration in ICU were obtained 7 nurses who suffers MRSA colonization, which is 3 nurses in the group 0-<5 years of working duration and 4 nurses in the group that have 5-<10 years of working duration. No MRSA colonization found in the group with the working duration >10 years. Colonized nurses are capable to become a source of transmitting MRSA to others. Eradication with mupirocin intranasal is needed and they are encouraged to wear masks when dealing with patients. Key word : Colonization, MRSA, Working Duration
