Abstract

Anemia is a condition of low hemoglobin consentration in the blood. The high prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls in Indonesia reached 50%, which had a negative impact on their lives and reduced the human resources quality. Anemia could also caused primary dysmenorrhea. Dysmennorhea is reported as a general gynecological complaint and most often causes of the absences of teenagers or women at their work, school or other activities. This research is aimed to know the relationship between anemia and primary dysmenorrhea in college student Course of Medical Education Medical Faculty of Andalas University batch 2011. Its used analytical study with cross sectional design. Total sample of this research is 48 respondent divided into 2 groups, anemia groups (case) and non anemia groups (control). Sampling technique used is Consecutive Sampling. Interviewing with the questionare used to collect primary dysmenorrhea data, and the digital hemometer used to collect the measure of hemoglobin. Statistic analysis used is Chi Square test. The result of this reaserch shown that 52,1% respondents suffer from dysmenorrhea. In anemia groups 83,3% respondents suffer from dysmenorrhea while just 20,8% of non anemia groups suffer from it. Result of analysis revealed that primary dysmenorrhea was significantly correlated with anemia (p<0,05) This research concluded that most of college student suffering from primary dysmenorrhea. Results also concluded that a significantly high correlation was found between primary dysmenorrhea and anemia prevalence. Keywords : Primary dysmenorrhea, anemia, medical students
