Abstract
Background: Preterm birth has been identified internationally as a research priority in reproductive medicine. Preterm birth still becomes the main unsolved problem in perinatal medicine. Risk factors for preterm birth are: low socioeconomic, malnutrition, no antenatal care (ANC) visit, polyhydramnion, multiple gestasion, preeclampsia, preterm prelabor rupture of membrane (PPROM), placenta previa, and solusio placenta. The purpose of this study is to describe risk factors of preterm birth at RS. DR. M. Djamil Padang in 2013. Method: This descriptive research was obtained from medical records of patients which inclusion criteria was patients with preterm labor and exclusion criteria was incomplete data. The results were divided into frequency distribution according to maternal characteristic and frequency distribution according to obstetrical risk. The data were processed using a computerized program to obtain the frequency distribution of each variable. Result: The result showed that 125 data met the inclusion criteria, then 20 data were excluded so that the total samples were 105. The most preterm births were mothers with characteristics: high school educated (58,1%), Mid Upper Arm Circumfence (MUAC) ≥ 23,5 cm (79%), did regular ANC visit (60%). Meanwhile the highest obstetrical risks are: severe preeclampsia (33,3%), placenta previa partialis (16,2%), PPROM (16,2%), multiple gestation (6,7%), solusio placenta (1%), and polyhydramnion (0%). Conclusion: The highest risk factor for preterm birth is severe preeclampsia (33,3%). Keyword: preterm birth, risk factor, preeclampsia.
