Abstract

Appendicitis is an acute abdomen requiring immediate surgery. Any delay in action would lead to complications such as perforation which resulted in increased morbidity and mortality, and so we need fast and accurate diagnosis. Examination of leukocytes count can help to diagnosis of appendicitis and predict the occurrence of acute appendicitis perforation. However, leukocytes count can be influenced by gender, age, and nutritional status. This study is aimed to determine the differences of leukocytes count based on sex, age, and nutritional status in perforated appendicitis patient at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. This study desain was cross sectional comparative analytic study using medical record data period December 2011-December 2013. Samples taken from total sampling with a number of 53 patient who met inclusion and exclusion criteria . Data were analyzed using Independent T-test and Anova test. Results of study showed that perforated appendicitis more affects on male, more discovered on 15-24 years old, and most of them at normal nutritional status. Mean of leukocytes count on perforated appendicitis patient is 15709,83/mm3. There is a significant relation between nutritional status dan leukocytes count in perforated appendicitis patient ( p=0,021). Sex and age are not related to the leukocytes count. But there is a significant relation between nutritional status and leukocytes count on perforated appendicitis patient.
