Abstract

Early adult an individual is concerned with developing the ability to find intimate love or marriage. A marriage should be last for a life time, in other side according to the data of Religious Courts Class IA of Padang City, most of the woman at this stage filed divorce with there is no responsibility and harmony in the marriage life as the main reasons. The divorcement indicates the weak of marital satisfaction and the commitment in the marriage. This is a quantitative research which aimed to see the relationship between marital satisfaction with the commitment of early adult woman in Padang City. The instrument used in this research is marital satisfaction scale which is based on the Snyder theory (1979). It consists of 11 aspects of someone’s tendency to assess marriage by using the criteria which idealized by the society, the shared suffering and difficulties, the stisfaction toward affection, the effectivity of communication, the togetherness in spending time, the financial agreement, the sexual satisfaction, the willingness and the satisfaction as a parent, the family difficulties in childhood life, the satisfaction toward the child, and the sameness in the way of educating child. It consits of 32 items with 0.914 research reliability. Next, the commitment scale which is based on the Rusbult theory (2009) consists of 3 aspects, the tendency to persist in the relationship, the long term orientation, and the psychological attachment. The Rusbult’s theory consist of 13 items with 0.863 research reliability. The research population is early adult woman in Padang City. There are 200 early adult woman in Padang City taken as the research sample by using incidental sampling technique. The correlation analysis used to analyze the data. The research result shows that the marital satisfaction has a significant correlation with the commitment of early adult woman in Padang City and the correlation result is 0.455. it means that, the higher the marital satisfaction, the higher the commitment, otherwise the lower the marital satisfaction, the lower the commitment.
