Abstract

Human Resources (HR) is an important factor to achieve the organizational goals. Therefore, each organization requires qualified human resources. One of the important factors that must be considered to have a qualified human resources is job satisfaction. There are several things that cause low levels of satisfaction that will give an impact to the organization. Dissatisfaction can be caused by several factors, one of which is the quality of a superior-subordinate relationship. One of the theories that describe the quality of a superior-subordinate relationship is the Leader Member Exchange (LMX). The method used in this study is a quantitative method that is nonexperimental with quantitative survey research methods. This study aimed to examine the influence of the quality of a superior-subordinate relationship (LMX) on job satisfaction of employees in the Rectorate office of Andalas University. The population in this study were employees at the Rectorate office of Andalas University, amounting to 272 people. The number of samples in this study are 152 people using proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Analyzing tools used in this study was LMX scale multi dimensional to measure leader member exchange (LMX-MDM) consisting of 12 items based on the 4-dimensional LMX. As for the scale of job satisfaction is the Job Satisfaction Survey consisted of 32 items based on nine aspects of job satisfaction. The analysis was done by regression analysis, where X refers to the variable quality of superior-subordinate relationship (LMX) and Y refers to the variable job satisfaction. The results showed that the hypothesis can be accepted. The results of this study area significant influence quality of superior-subordinate relationship (LMX) on job satisfaction of employees in the Rectorate office of Andalas University. This is evidenced by the F-test where significance value of 0.000. The coefficient of determination shown by the R Square is 0.370 which means that the contribution of variables influence the quality of a superior-subordinate relationship (LMX) on job satisfaction of employees in the Rectorate office of Andalas University by 37% and the remaining 63% is determined by other variables not examined in this study.
