Abstract

INDUCTION OF RESISTANCE Bacillus spp. FOR CONTROL APHIDS (Aphis gossypii) (HEMIPTERA: APHIDIDAE) AND THE IMPACT ON THE GROWTH OF CHILI PLANTS ABSTRACT Bacillus spp. is one of the gram positive bacteria that is spread in many places which is known to produce antibiotic, anticancer, antifungal, antiviral, volatile compounds and even insecticides. The purpose of this study was to obtain Bacillus spp. isolates which could incrase the resistance of chili plants from A. gossypii attacks and incrase the growth of chili plants. The study used an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 11 treatments with 3 replications. The treatments consisted of 9 selected Bacillus spp. isolates which were introduced to chili seeds and seedlings. One of the treatments used insecticides and 1 control without treatment. The parameters observed were A. gossypii population, attack percentage, attack intensity, growth of chili seeds (field emergence, seed height, number of seed leaves, and root length), plant growth (plant height, number of leaves, number of branches) and production. The results showed that the best isolates that could suppress the attack were A. gossypii and increased the growth of chili plants, namely B. manliponensis isolate SLBE 2.3 BB and B. toyonensis AGBE 1.2 TL. Key words: Bacillus spp, chilies, Aphis. gossypii.
