Abstract

ABSTRACT Eris Nanda 1010832019. Political Alienation of Padang Citizens on 2014 Pilkada round I. Political Science Program. Faculty of Social and Political Science. Andalas University. Padang. 2015 thesis adviser I Dr. Asrinaldi, S.Sos, M.Si and thesis adviser II Irawati, S.IIP, M.A. This thesis consist of + 136 pages with 14 books references, 2 thesis and 2 academic journals, 3 internet sites. Background of this research is political alienation on 2014 Pilkada round II in Kecamatan Padang Timur. Based on Finifter Political alienation is measured by 4 elements: Political powerlessness, political meaninglessness, perceive the political normlessness,and political isolation. Purpose of this research is to explain relations between variable of political alienation (Y) with variable of civic engagement (X1) and variable of strength of party affiliation (X2). This research utilizes political alienation theory and quantitative approach, and it’s type is descriptive research and cross-sectional design. Data collection is by using questioner and direct interview with respondent. Choosing of sample or respondent is based on stratified random sampling technique. Unit of analysis is individual, and data are analyzed by using table frequency, cross tabulation and kendall’s tau. Field research shows that there is positive relation between variable X1 and variable Y, which indicates that lower of civic engagement so that means more political alienation in society. Then, there is positive relation between variable X2 and variable Y, which indicates lower of party affiliation strength, so that also means that more political alienation in society.
