Abstract

This thesis explains the use of speech acts uttered by Bretman Rock in interview conversations on the Clevver News Youtube Channel. This study aims to analyze the types of expressive speech and identify the personal character of Bretman Rock. The data were collected by downloading from the internet. The data that has been collected is then analyzed based on the theory put forward by Ronan (2015: 35-41), and the characterization theory to determine the character of the main character by Culpeper (2001). From 48 data analyzed, it is found 7 types of expressive utterances including disagreement, indirect complaint in the appeal, approval, expressing sadness, gratitude, willingness, and greeting. The most dominant type of expressive speech that appears is agreement. This shows that Bretman has an open personality and confidence as an influencer and content creator. Keywords: pragma-stylistics, expressive speech act, characterization.
