Abstract
Diarrhea is one of the diseases that causes the highest morbidity and mortality among children under five, especially in developing countries. Several factors that influence the incidence of diarrhea are exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life, mother's occupation, mother's education and mother's age. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, maternal education, maternal age, maternal occupation with the incidence of acute diarrhea in children aged 6-24 months in the working area of Puskesmas Pauh. The research design was cross sectional. The sample in this study amounted to 100 respondents who were selected by purposive sampling technique. The samples were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria set by the researcher. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire given to respondents with guided interviews. Chi square test results based on cross tab analysis showed exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.001), maternal education (p = 0.025), maternal occupation (p = 0.04), maternal age (p = 1,000). Based on the multivariate analysis, it was found that exclusive breastfeeding is the biggest risk factor that reduces the incidence of diarrhea. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, maternal education, maternal occupation and the incidence of acute diarrhea in children aged 6-24 months in the working area of the Puskesmas Pauh.
