Jaundice is a condition characterized by the yellow discoloration of body tissues which is caused by an excessive accumulation of bilirubin. Based on the etiology, jaundice could be classified as: pre hepatic, intrahepatic, and post hepatic. The aim of this study is to find out the characteristics of jaundice patients in RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang from January to December 2019. The design of this study was descriptive research using a cross sectional study method. Sampling was done by using total sampling technique. The research data were obtained from the patient's medical records. The research sample consisted of 88 jaundice patients from the Surgical and Internal Medicine departement of RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang period January - December 2019. Data is processed and displayed in the form of frequency distribution. The finding result from 88 patients who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria are that 64 jaundice patients were caused by post hepatic (72,7%), most patients were in the middle age group with the range of 45-59 years old (40,9%), male (54,5%), with onset ≥ 14 days (51,1%), total bilirubin ≥ 15 mg/dL (42%) and direct/total bilirubin ratio > 0,6 (80,7%). From this study, it can be concluded that middle age group, male, post hepatic etiology, ≥ 14 days onset, total bilirubin ≥ 15 mg/dL, direct/total bilirubin ratio > 0,6 are dominant characteristics of jaundice patients in RSUP Dr. M.
