Abstract

ABSTRACT This thesis examines Barack Obama farewell speech by using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) Theory of Van Dijk. This thesis investigate the structures of Critical Discourse Analysis that arise in Barack Obama Farewell Speech which consist of three structures of analysis consisting of macrostructure, microstructure, and superstructure. By using descriptive qualitative method, this research gives the understanding about how linguistic features come up through Critical discourse analysis. In the result of the analysis, the writer uncovers Barack Obama’s opinion through speech text by applying syntactic, semantic and rhetoric styles. Barack Obama wants to deliver crucial problems that happen in America especially about Democracy. In his speech, he tries to convince American people to always creed in democracy, equality, and self freedom eventhough he is no longer the president of America.
