Abstract

Hemiplegia or hemiparesis is the most common injury that results from damage to the motor cortex after a stroke. Recovery is not typically the ipsilesional repair of the motor cortex but is associated with normalization of that function. One of the rehabilitation interventions that can improve the function of the musculoskeletal system is a range of motion (ROM) exercise which aims to increase blood flow to the brain, minimize disabilities due to stroke, so as to improve motor sensory function. The purpose of writing this final scientific report is to describe how nursing care for stroke patients with a literature review of the application of ROM exercise. Search for journal articles was carried out electronically by using several databases, namely:databases Science Direct, Research Gate, Sage, Pubmed and Google Scholar from September 2020 to October 2020. The keywords used were "Range of Motion", "Stroke", "Hemiplegia" so that we get five articles for review. The inclusion criteria included the effect of applying range of motion to the motor function of stroke patients. Of the five studies included in the inclusion criteria, a randomized controlled trial, pre-post trial and cohort study was used. The population is stroke patients during acute and sub acute phase with hemiplegia. Of the five articles reviewed and analyzed, it was found that giving ROM intervention exercise immediately after the attack / in the acute phase with regard to the patient's neurological status and vital signs could give more significant results on the patient's motor function. So it can be concluded that the provision of intervention Range of motion exercise is effective in improving the motor function of stroke patients.
