Abstract
A Efforts that can improve self management behavior in patients with diabetes mellitus Type 2 through health education programs what has been done at the Puskesmas with structured education InGDEP (Indonesian Grup Based Development Programme). The need for continuous evaluation in the provision of education to increase in knowledge, attitudes and selfcare. The purpose of this study was to explore the management of Type 2 DM patients after participating in the structured education of InGDEP. The research conducted on Type 2 DM patients at the Lubuk Buaya Health Center, Padang, which has received an InGDEP education program. The research design used a qualitative method with in-depth interviews and observations using a diary that was filled in for 7 days on 10 selected participants and 3 person health workers. The design used is qualitative with grounded theory approach. The analysis process is carried out using a grounded theory approach which is open coding, axial coding and selective coding. The results showed core category is changing health behavior related self management based on theory Kar perspective included five selective coding. Providing information through index structured education has provided changes in health behavior through self management measures including diet management before it does not comply with the standart of regular physical activity,medication and routine and regular blood sugar monitoring that characterized by the majority of participants have shown good and moderate changes in glycemic control (60%) and only 40% poor glycemic control. The importance of providing education in stages and focusing on the condition of the patient individually and adequate support system in diet management with group education and home visit. InGDEP education are felt so that they were expected to be sustainable.
