Abstract
This research is about the features of women’s language which are found in the utterances of three male beauty vloggers who talk about beauty on their YouTube channels. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there are women’s language features in the three men’s utterances and explain the functions of the features. The research data were obtained from utterances spoken by the three male beauty vloggers in their videos. Data collection is done by using non-participatory observation methods (Sudaryanto, 1993). The form and type of women’s linguistic features were analyzed using Lakoff's (1975) theory and the function of each feature was determined based on Holmes' (1992) theory. From the results of data analysis, it is found 830 features of women’s language features that can be categorized into 5 types, namely: 1) Lexical hedges and fillers, 2) Empty adjectives, 3) Precise color terms, 4) Intensifiers, and 5) Emphatic stress. Intensifiers and Lexical hedges and fillers are the two most dominant features used. The five types of women’s linguistic features have some functions to: 1) reinforce statements, 2) show doubts, and 3) call for attention. The most dominant function is to strengthen the statement.
