Abstract

Long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis) who live in groups in a tourist area are often fed irregularly by visitors. The habit of providing food by humans can affect daily behavior such as foraging, mating, exploring, being aggressive, and playing behavior. This study aimed to clarify the types of play, play partners and factors that influence the incidence of play in a monkey group tourist area of Gunung Meru, Padang. The sampling method of behavior (sampling rule) used is behavior sampling and the method of recording behavior (recording rule) used is continuous recording using a video camera. The types of games played by M. fascicularis on Gunung Meru are bitting play, rough and tumble play, chasing play, non-sexual mounting play, climbing play, and tool play. The type of game that is more often played by M. fascicularis on Gunung Meru is bitting play and rough and tumble play while the initiator and the most active play partner are male juveniles. Location, visitor crowds, weather, time, age and gender influence the incidence of playing on M. fascicularis on Gunung Meru. This study indicates that the performance of playing behavior of long-tailed macaques influenced by ages, sexs, and provisioning. Keywords: type of play, Macaca fascicularis, play behavior, provisioning.
