Abstract

Globally micronutrient deficiencies are common among pregnant women. Pregnant women are vulnerable to micronutrient deficiencies. Vitamins and minerals deficiency is considered the main cause of nutritional anemia; changes in micronutrient status are also associated with the formation and hemoglobin levels. Hemoglobin level <11g/dl in first trimester of pregnant women indicate that they are anemic. The effect of anemia can be observed from the increasing of maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity. This study aims to determine the relation of micronutrient intake and hemoglobin level in first trimester pregnant women. This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted in Kabupaten Agam on January-November 2019 to 58 respondents. Respondents were obtained using consecutive sampling method Data was analyzed by Pearson correlation test. The study showed the correlation of micronutrient intake and hemoglobin levels, iron intake (r=-0,024), zinc intake (r=-0,089), folic acid (r=0,467) vitamin A (r=-0.060), vitamin C (r= 0,096). This study concludes that there were no correlations between iron, zinc, folic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C intake with hemoglobin level. Keywords: micronutrient intake, hemoglobin levels, anemia, first trimesters pregnant women.
