Abstract

This thesis interprets the language attitudes of twelfth grade students of SMAN 9 Padang toward the use of English in cafe’s menu book and the factors that influence these attitudes. This research uses survey method in the form of questionnaires in collecting the data. The questionnaires were distributed to 51 respondents who came from 12th grade students of SMAN 9 Padang. The analysis of the questionnaire data showed that 71.56%of the respondents have positive attitude, 22.35% of the respondents showed neutral attitude, and the remaining 6,08% of them showed negative attitude toward the use of English in cafe’s menu book. Furthermore, the result of the analysis showed that the factor influencing the language attitudes of the 12th grade students of SMAN 9 Padang is the power and prestige of the language.
