Abstract

Heart and blood vessel disease is one of the most contributors of mortality and morbidity in the world every year. According to the data published by WHO (World Health Organization) in 2018 predicts that the death rate from cardiovascular disease will increase to more than 23.6 million people by 2030. Dyspnoe is the most common complaint felt by patients with ADHF or heart failure. Breathing shortness is increased in heavy activities. In addition, patients with heart failure also experience orthopnoe (shortness when sleeping in the supine position) and feel chest pain due to ischemia (angina pectoris). Decreased sleep quality in ADHF patients is one of the various effects of chest pain which is caused by a decrease in heart's oxygen supply. One of the interventions to facilitate rest and sleep was by giving footbath therapy to improve the comfort and quality of sleep of patients treated in the cardiac care unit (Talebi, 2019). The purpose of this final scientific report was to discuss nursing care in ADHF patients by administering footbath therapy to improve the quality of sleep of patients in the CVCU room of RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. The procedures started with assessment, data analysis, nursing diagnoses, interventions, implementation, and evaluation. The diagnoses found were impaired gas exchange related to ventilation perfusion imbalances, decreased cardiac output related to changes in heart rhythm, acute pain related to physiological injury agents. The results of the implementation were to improve the quality of sleep in patients after footbath therapy. It is recommended to give footbath therapy to clients with sleep disorders and chest pain.
