Abstract

As ecological issues grow stronger, fiction that explores environmental awareness is becoming increasingly important to read. The Wild Robot by Peter Brown introduces a new formula for children's literature: a simple narrative and strong ecological messages featuring a robot stranded on a wild island. This research examines how symbols and intrinsic elements promote ecological activism and symbolism, and how they encourage young readers to protect nature as something worth applying in the novel The Wild Robot. It applies a qualitative method, with library research and close reading, to analyze the text through ecocritical and New Critical perspectives. By close reading the text, characters, and intrinsic elements, the analysis reveals patterns and meanings that reinforce the novel’s ecological themes. The findings are several characters, such as Roz, the bears, the fox, and Brightbill, who serve as symbols that highlight ideas of adaptation, survival, wilderness, and cross-species kinship. This study concludes that The Wild Robot effectively combines entertainment with environmental education through the use of symbolic characters and the ecological activism movement. The novel introduces young readers to ecological themes in a friendly and humorous way.
