Abstract

The goal of the conversation process is to convey the information and to understand the information smoothly. In order to achieve that, both of the speaker and listener are expected to use language effectively. This research aims at analyzes the use of conversational implicature of the BTS members’ utterances in the BTS Run reality show by using Grice’s theory of cooperative principle. The objectives of this research are to identify the types of the Conversational Implicature used by BTS on the BTS Run reality show and analyze the utterance with Cooperative Principle theory. The research is qualitatively done. The data are the translated conversation of BTS members in the BTS Run reality show that contains implied meaning. The result of this research consists of two points. First, all of BTS members use both generalized and particularized conversational implicature but they use generalized conversational implicature more frequently than particularized conversational implicature. Second, the members of BTS often violate the maxim of quantity over other maxims.
