Abstract

Dyspepsia is a collection of symptoms characterized by discomfort in the epigastric region, which can be triggered by various factors, one of which is psychological distress. Severe dyspepsia not only affects the quality of life but also impacts an individual's dietary status. This study aimed to determine the association between the degree of dyspepsia symptoms and dietary status in dyspepsia patients experiencing psychological distress. The research used a cross-sectional design. It was a primary study conducted through direct interviews with dyspepsia patients experiencing psychological distress who were undergoing treatment at Andalas University Hospital. The study was conducted in December 2024 with a total sample size of 84 participants. The statistical analysis used was the chi-square test. The results show that the proportion of mild dyspepsia with abnormal nutritional status was smaller (51.9%) compared to moderate dyspepsia with abnormal dietary status (54.3%) and severe dyspepsia with abnormal dietary status (59.1%). Statistical analysis did not show a significant relationship between the degree of dyspepsia syndrome symptoms and dietary status (p=0,877). The study concludes that there is no statistically significant relationship between the degree of dyspepsia syndrome symptoms and dietary status. However, the proportion of severe dyspepsia with abnormal dietary status is higher than mild and moderate dyspepsia with abnormal dietary status.
