Abstract
This thesis discusses several issues of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and defense mechanism methods described by Delia Owens through the main character in the novel Where the Crawdads Sing. I apply Sigmund Freud's personality and defense mechanism theories in this research. The analysis presented in this thesis aims to explore the influence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder on the main character's personality change and the defense mechanisms employed directly or indirectly by the main character. The results of this analysis show that Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder can affect the main character's originally cheerful personality, causing her to become a loner who isolates herself from society. Additionally, the main character manages to survive the disturbance caused by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder through the use of defense mechanisms.
