Abstract

The processing industry has become one of the largest contributors to Indonesia's GDP. The metal work industry is one of the processing industry sectors that is mostly classified as Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. This industry processes raw metal sheets into metal work products. In the current market, the price of a sheet of metal is relatively high, and the processing process requires precision to minimize the number of defects produced. Taking these factors into account, maintaining competitive market growth, improving product quality and reducing the number of defective products are very important for every company operating in this field. This study aims to determine the capability of the metal work production process at PT Citra Interlindo, identify factors that cause frequent defects, and propose improvements to the factors that affect the occurrence of defects in products. These objectives can be achieved by using Lean Manufacturing and the Six Sigma DMAIC approach. The business process of Metal Work Factory is described by SIPOC Diagram. CTQ Tree is used as a criterion for potential defects. DPMO is used as a matrix to calculate the capability of the metal work product production process. A Fishbone Diagram is used to determine the factors that cause defects which are then processed into the FMEA method to determine risk priorities based on the resulting RPN value. From the results of the Sigma calculation at the measure stage, the metal work yield percentage value of 97.7898% belongs to the sigma value of 4.02. This value indicates that the Metal Work Plant at PT Citra Interlindo is included in the average industrial capability level. It shows the production process of metalwork products needs to be improved in order to compete with other competitors.
