Abstract
This thesis examines the irony in the struggle for love among teenagers in John Green's novel Paper Towns. This study uses New Criticism to analyze the intrinsic elements in the novel (characters, plot, setting, point of view, and theme) which contain an element of irony in, which work together to support the pursuit of love (which is the content of the story) so that a complete unity is formed which is also called "organic unity" in this novel. From this study it can be concluded that the intrinsic elements of this novel contain irony which plays an important role in showing the elements of the struggle for love by the main character in this novel. This leads to the conclusion that "organic unity" is formed due to the support of formal elements and content in this novel.
