Abstract

Thalassemia is a hemolytic anemia disease that is inherited autosomal recessive with a high incidence in the world. This disease often causes death, especially in major thalassemia β. This study aims to determine the profile of patients with major thalassemia β who are hospitalized in Pediatric ward at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. This research was a cross sectional descriptive study by collecting medical records data of patients with major thalassemia β patients who were hospitalized in Pediatric ward at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang during the period 1 January 2015-31 December 2017. Data processing is done computerically. The results showed that the major thalassemia β patients were 5- <12 years old (56.4%), more girls (50.9%), good nutrition (63.6%) and normal stature (61.8%), hemoglobin pretranfusion is generally moderate anemia (69.1%). Most serum ferritin levels are in the high group (81.8%). Keywords: age, sex, growth, pretranfusion hemoglobin, serum ferritin.
