Abstract
The rapid development of transportation modes and the increasing number of motor vehicles that are not accompanied by an increase in road capacity, causing traffic flows caused by competition among fellow transport actors. Motorcycle is one of the most favored transportation mode of Indonesian because it provides many conveniences. But the lack of motorcyclist's knowledge and adherence to traffic rules, led to a high number of accidents involving motorcycle drivers. At unsignalised intersection, there is often a forced gap by the motorcycle rider who will pass through the intersection, so that there is often an accident. The purpose of this research is to analyze the phenomenon of force gap in relation to gap acceptance by motorcycle rider who will crossing the major traffic flow and analyze the effect of traffic volume on force gap phenomenon by motorcycle rider. The study was conducted at unsignalised intersection of Ahmad Yani Road- Bandar Damar Road- Bandar Purus Road in Padang City. Observations were made using a drone camera with the duration of recording + 20 minutes repeatedly, during busy, mid and not busy traffic. The results of this study show the average of gap and lag deacrease during heavy traffic. Very small interval of gap and lag values indicate the forced gap by motorcycle from a minor road while crossing the major road. More than 80.65% of motorcycles create a forced slit at the intersection. The magnitude of the percentage incidence that many motorcyclists ignore traffic rules at the intersection Keywords: motorcycle, force, gap
