Abstract

This study discusses the complicated love story between two lovers from William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. This research focuses on examining the problems of love between two couples that complicate their relationship. The focus of further research is to explain the existence of other meanings in the title of the drama that the author examines. The latter focus is on revealing the characters' ambiguous personalities that complicate their love story. In analyzing this drama, the writer uses a formalist theory and psychology approach that focuses on the intrinsic elements of the drama Much Ado About Nothing, namely the characters. In the research method the author uses qualitative methods and literature review as the research method. As a result, the writer finds a very dominant character to be the cause of a complicated love story in Shakespeare's work. The antagonist character in this play, namely Don Pedro, also plays a very important role in causing the complicated love story experienced by the two couples in this Shakespeare play.
