Abstract

Ichthyophis elongatus is one of the amphibians belonging to the Order Gymnophiona. Having a body shape that is different from other amphibian orders, this species can be found in humid places such as underground, secondary forest floor litter or on river banks. More study on this species is needed because research on it is still restricted to morphology and distribution. This study aims to see how the genetic kinship of the Ichthyophis elongatus in West Sumatra relates to other species in Asia. It uses the cytochrome b (cyt b) gene that can be used for phylogenetic analysis. Sampling was carried out directly in the field from Padang City, Batusangkar City, Solok Regency and Limapuluh Kota Regency as well as molecular analysis at the Genetics and Biomolecular Laboratory, Department of Biology, Universitas Andalas. The results of the analysis of 559 bp cyt b genes have a genetic distance of 2.61–6.54% showing that Ichthyophis elongatus originating from several regions in West Sumatra has a monophyletic relationship with other Ichthyophis spp. from Asia
