Abstract

During a disaster, the main cause of death for the elderly is due to lack of time to escape, or because of their physical inability to move without the help of others, therefore family preparedness is the most important thing, so that families are able to guide family members in evacuating other family members. This study aims to determine the description of the preparedness of families who have mobility impairments in the elderly in dealing with the earthquake and tsunami disaster in RW 05, Pasie Nan Tigo Village. The method used is a qualitative method with a case study approach. Sampling using purposive sampling. Data were obtained by in-depth interviews with six participants. The data collected was in the form of recorded interviews which were equipped with interview guidelines, then analyzed using the Collaizi technique. The results of the study identified three main themes, namely family behavior towards disaster preparedness, roles and responsibilities of families in disaster preparedness and support for disaster preparedness. It is hoped that the government can develop a preparedness program, especially for families, such as conducting door-to-door socialization so that the elderly with mobility impairments can still receive education on disaster preparedness.
