Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases with characteristic hyperglycemia that occurs due to abnormal insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a type of diabetes that is most commonly found than type 1 diabetes mellitus. High mortality rate in diabetes mellitus cuased by acute or chronic complications. Hypertension can accelerate the onset of vascular complications in patients with diabetes mellitus. This retrospective study conducted at dr. M Djamil Padang, with 242 Type 2 diabetes mellitus outpatient and inpatient in May 2014. With the research results showed 124 patients (51, 2%) in RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang in May 2014 had hypertension in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, and 159 patients (65.7%) of the total study subjects had suffered macrovascular complications, microvascular, or both. By bivariate analysis using the chi square there was a significant relationship (p<0.05) between hypertension in patients type 2 diabetes mellitus and macrovascular and microvascular complications.
