Abstract
Background : Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy found and estimated 1.1% of all human malignancies. Thyroid cancer is generally classified as a slow tumor growth and course of the disease, and low morbidity and mortality, especially in well-differentiated cancers. Type of surgery for well-differentiated thyroid cancer is still controversy among stronghold total thyroidectomy with conservative (lobectomy or isthmulobektomi). This research will look for the relationship type of operation with 10- year survival rate of patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer in M. Djamil Hospital Padang. Methods : This was a retrospective study by collecting data on the state of thyroid cancer patients who had been treated section surgeon Dr. RS M. Djamil Padang from January 1st, 2004 to December 31st , 2013. Data collection was performed at the Hospital Medical Records Section, Dr. M. Djamil, directly to patients in the Surgical Clinic, through home visits or pertelepon. The data analysis was done analytically comparative and to find the relationship between the two variables used chi square test with 95% degree of confidence. Results : Of the 62 patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer sample obtained a total of 27 low-risk group of patients. Still there are different types of surgery well-differentiated thyroid cancer low risk group, where the types of more conservative surgery complications not found with 10-years survival rates were not statistically significant compared to total thyroidectomy surgery.
